Hundreds of dead dolphins were knocked up on the touristy beach north of Zanzibar. Scientists surmised they were disoriented, or disturbed by the US Navy's underwater navigation system.
" All are mature dolphins. We can't do anything but photograph them, " said a hotel boss.
Right now, the cause of mass deaths is still unclear, but experts say they may be disoriented because they do not die from starvation or poisoning.
In the United States, experts are also investigating the possibility that US submarine navigation systems may be the cause of a similar accident in Florida in 2005, when 68 whales were stranded to death.
A fisheries official from Zanzibar said the islands had never witnessed the deaths of so many whales.
