The earthquake occurred on 10h22 am May 28 (local time) at a depth of 38.7km, about 47km from Tangshan City, Hebei Province. The city suffered one of the worst earthquakes in China, killing about 242,000 people in 1976.
The Chinese government said the earthquake this morning was stronger than the 4.8 richter scale. This information was made by the China Earthquake Network Center.
