A young Chinese boy found a dinosaur egg from the extremely rare Cretaceous period on the banks of the Dong Giang River.

Zhang Yangzhe , a fourth-grade student at the elementary school in Ha Yuan, Guangdong Province, China, found the object of fossil dinosaur eggs on July 23 while playing on the banks of the Dongjiang River. Li Xiaofang, the boy's mother, contacted the local museum to announce the discovery. Museum staff came to the area and dug a total of 11 fossil dinosaur eggs dating back 66 million years.

"The bridge above the river was destroyed by the floodwaters, revealing the soil below the bridge. Zhang found the egg on the slope. I called out to him and said it looked like a dinosaur egg." Li recounted.

Li said her son visited the recent Ha Nguyen Dinosaur Museum and saw fossil dinosaur eggs in various shapes, some intact while several others were broken. Thanks to that, the boy can recognize dinosaur eggs at a glance.

Ha Nguyen has been dubbed the "cradle of dinosaurs" due to the large number of dinosaur eggs and fossil bones discovered since 1996. Ha Nguyen Dinosaur Museum was also established to serve the study of ancient creatures. .

Upon hearing the news, Huang Zhiqing, deputy head of the research department at the museum, and his colleagues quickly went to the place with the police. The fossil eggs they found were about 9cm in diameter, remaining from the end of the Cretaceous period. Despite years of erosion and contact with water, these eggs are relatively intact. The museum will mobilize manpower to clean and restore fossil eggs, and arrange appropriate time to re-examine and excavate deeper at the abutment.
