The report published in the latest issue of Lancet shows that Cardiff University scientists (UK) have scanned the genome map of more than 1,400 children and found DNA fragments in children with ADHD. There is often a deficiency or anomaly in the copying process compared to normal children.
This is the first time scientists have found direct evidence of the relationship between ADHD and genetic factors.
Scientist Annie Tapal, of Cardiff University, in charge of the research team, said the results showed that ADHD is a disease caused by genetic disorders , thereby causing the brain's development process. Children with ADHD appear abnormal compared to other normal children.
According to statistics, currently about 3-5% of children are at risk of ADHD, in which men account for a higher rate than women.
Previous studies have not identified the cause of ADHD. Some experts believe that the cause of ADHD is related to parents' education habits or related to bad eating habits.
Currently, ADHD still has no effective treatment, usually the method to control this disease is mainly based on drugs or restricting the behavior of infected people.
Scientist Annie Tapal said the research results are important to help scientists study new drugs to treat ADHD, thereby finding the most effective treatment.
