Scientists believe that the Europa Moon has a large ocean beneath the ice. This may be where life exists at a simple level.

NASA plans to collect soil and ice samples from Jupiter's Moon Europa.

"Bacteria or aliens can easily survive on their journey back to Earth, if they are protected from the sun's ultraviolet rays," Dr. Rummel explained. "Like all bacteria in general, they are immune to the cold and dry environment."

"On the surface of Europa, the bacteria will die within a few hours to a few days. But if protected in a spaceship, they are still alive until the ship stops working."

Compared to the Moon Europa, Mars is less concerned by scientists because it has no ocean. Extreme climatic conditions mean that bacteria originating from the Earth will not be able to live long on Mars.
