America announced the list of 12 most pesticide-rich fruits and vegetables in 2017

Strawberry continues to top the list of 12 most pesticide-rich fruits and vegetables in 2017 in the United States. This is considered a "shopping guide" for everyone in the world.

To reschedule, in the middle of the past week, the Environmental Working Group (EWG), an environmental organization of the United States, has published a list of vegetables containing the highest levels of pesticides and at least in America.

Accordingly, of the 48 types of products surveyed, up to 70% contain large amounts of pesticides. This rate has decreased by 6.6% compared to last year.

EWG said strawberries topped the list of food products with the highest pesticide concentrations after the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested 36,000 product samples.

What are pesticides?

Pesticides are widely used in tree planting to control pests like insects, rodents, weeds, bacteria, mold and fungi.

Besides being used in agriculture, pesticides are also used to protect public health by treating tropical disease-causing organisms such as mosquitoes.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), pesticides are very dangerous to human health. They cause serious consequences to the reproductive, immune or nervous systems, cause cancer and lead to other problems.

According to reports, pesticide residues can exist on fruits and vegetables even when they are washed, and in some cases, whether peeled or peeled.

Products after testing have a positive result for pesticides and have a higher concentration of pesticides than other products included in the "Dirty Zone" list.

The oil products on this list start with strawberries, spinach, nectarines, apples, peaches, celery, grapes, pears, cherries, tomatoes, sweet bell peppers and potatoes.

Strawberries remain at the top of this year's list because they contain at least 20 pesticides. Meanwhile, spinach leaps to second place with twice the pesticide dose of other crops.

According to EWG, an American eats nearly 4 kg of fresh strawberries per year. Even when washed at the planting site, then washed before eating, this fruit still contains pesticides.

Last year, spinach ranked eighth in the "black" list but now farmers have used more pesticides that may increase the risk of cancer, causing infertility, endocrine disorders. and neurological problems.

Products after testing showed that less pesticides or lower pesticide residues were added to the "Clean Fifteen" list.

This list includes sweet corn, avocado, pineapple, cabbage, onion, frozen peas, papaya, asparagus, mango, eggplant, melon, kiwi, melon, cauliflower and grapefruit.

Be smart consumers

Nutrition experts believe that the above two lists are important because they help consumers avoid carrying chemicals in their family's daily meals.

"I believe this is an important and reliable source of information , " said Corinne Bush, a clinical nutritionist who did not participate in the survey.

Ms Bush warned that some pesticides were used in plants even though they did not pass the safety threshold of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) but were still very dangerous to consumers' health.

Because although food contains low content, if consumers are exposed to long term, they will receive negative effects.

EWG recommends that organic products be the safest for consumers.

"Fruits and vegetables are very important to human health. If you don't want your family, especially your children to eat pesticide-containing foods, take note of EWG's guidelines.

And to be more secure, you should buy organic vegetables, tubers, and fruits, which will avoid pesticides, "said Sonya Lunder, senior analyst at EWG.

Note: This list is in the US, so it is for reference only, because Vietnam has not recorded the same category every year. Of course looking at it, you can also be more cautious with some of the categories in this category.
