Anti-drowning hat

Australian scientists have developed a helmet that detects driver drowsiness by monitoring brain waves.

Australian scientists have developed a helmet that detects driver drowsiness by monitoring brain waves.

SmartCap, the name of the hat, is red and incorporates many advanced sensors to track brain activity. According to the Daily Mail, these sensors are capable of detecting brain fatigue. If you find the driver is fatigued, it will send a message to a handheld device (such as a smartphone, PDA). A software in handheld device will analyze brainwave data based on an algorithm to determine if the driver is sleepy or not. If you find the driver is sleepy, the device emits a warning to the driver to stop, rest or sleep.

CRC Mining - a research organization based in Australia - invented SmartCap. They said that since December of this year, heavy-duty motorists under the platinum mines of a company called Anglo American will be using a drowning warning helmet.

Cynthia Carroll, CEO of Anglo American, believes the hat will help thousands of workers reduce the risk of accidents and death from drowsiness during work.

" The mining industry has been looking for something like this for decades ," Carroll said.

CRC Mining hopes that in the next few years they will be able to produce SmartCap on a large scale so that every driver has the opportunity to use it.
