Asia is about to have a anti-blind drug factory
Genentech (US) has announced on March 28 that it plans to invest US $ 140 million to build a Lucentis anti-blind drug factory. This will be the first plant in Asia to produce this injection.
According to executive vice president Patrick Yang, Genentech will start the factory in Singapore in the second quarter of 2007 and this will be an important stage in the global Lucentis supply network. Licensed by the US Food and Drug Administration in June 2006, Lucentis works against age-related black spots - a phenomenon that can cause blindness.
Genentech's investment in Singapore is part of Singapore's Science-Technology Research Agency (A * Star)."We hope to attract Genentech to consider building research facilities in Singapore," said A * Star President Phil Yeo .
