Australia mobilizes troops to participate in flood fighting

On January 29, Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said the country's state of Queensland would receive support from the military to deal with a serious flood crisis.

The Sydney correspondent reported that the Australian Air Force is deploying C-17 Globemaster heavy transport aircraft, Black Hawk helicopters and about 100 defense personnel to transport medical and rescue equipment.

As of January 29, at least 4 people were killed by floods in the states of Queensland and New South Wales and Northeast Australia. The governor of Queensland, Campbell Newman, said Bundaberg city is considered a top priority. Here, more than 7,000 people cannot return home.
