Breastfeeding can increase IQ for children

Research by Brazilian scientists indicates that breastfeeding can not only prevent infectious disease, reduce the risk of death, but also relate to increased intelligence .

Experts began the study in 1982 with nearly 6,000 newborn babies, monitoring and recording the time they were breastfed and the age at which they started eating solid foods. 30 years later, they conducted interviews and examined nearly 3,500 people.

According to NY Daily News, they found that at age 30, compared to those who had been breastfed for only one month, those who were breastfed for 12 months or more had a higher IQ (about 3 , 7 points), longer study time and monthly income is about 20% higher than the average . This is the result after excluding smoking habits, family conditions, birth weight, educational background and some other factors.

However, scientists say this is an observational study, many other factors that have not been taken into account can affect the final results.

" I don't want to make people worry. Our research not only shows that this method affects IQ, but also emphasizes it's very important and should be encouraged to apply , " Bernardo Lessa Horta , member of the University of Pelotas research group, said.
