Can dengue fever be transmitted sexually?

Scientists have found dengue virus in a male patient's semen, suggesting the possibility of dengue dengue can be transmitted sexually like Zika.

According to information published in the scientific journal Eurosurveillance, the patient is Italian over 50 years old, suffering from dengue after his tour in Thailand earlier this year. After 9 days of illness, doctors of the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (Rome - Italy) found the virus in his semen.

After 23 days of illness, traces of virus in his blood and urine disappeared.

However, the virus remained in his semen until the 37th day and disappeared completely from the body on the 55th day.

The discovery of the virus in the patient's semen caused researchers to suspect that the possibility of dengue dengue may spread through sexual contact as was the case.

Historically, the spread of dengue has been attributed to mosquitoes carrying germs on healthy people, a small number of cases due to medical procedures and transmission through breast milk in case of breastfeeding. .

The researchers confirmed: "The persistent presence of dengue virus in male genital organs has not been previously recorded. The findings show the possibility of dengue virus being transmitted through sexual contact in areas without epidemics ".

However, so far no cases have been reported as sexually transmitted dengue infection and further studies are needed to confirm the problem.

Dengue dengue fever is a mosquito-borne disease, including Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, in which Aedes aegypti mosquito is the main vector of transmission. Mosquitoes burn people with germs and then burn healthy people, which can transmit the virus to healthy people and spread dengue dengue in the community.

The disease has four serotypes, so the patient is likely to have dengue fever up to four times in his life, each time a different serotype.

Currently, there is no specific treatment for dengue dengue, so the prevention of dengue dengue is mainly to prevent mosquito bites.

Dengue haemorrhagic fever occurs in countries in tropical climates. In Vietnam , the disease is very common, both in the North, Central, South and Central Highlands, even in urban and rural areas, occurs year round but often breaks out into a major epidemic in the rainy season, especially on July, 8, 9, 10.
