China developed a new tsunami warning system

After the Asian tsunami in 2004 and the recent tsunami in Indonesia, China said it would develop a new tsunami warning system that helps protect residents of coastal areas.

"We will send short announcements to people in coastal areas or send alerts to satellites and broadcast via radio ," Yu Fujiang said.

China now uses a tsunami warning system or other disasters that can send alerts to coastal areas within 30 minutes.

As a member of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), China receives data from a series of ocean surveillance buoys. Each member country will establish a series of surveillance buoys and all member states share information about submarine earthquakes or other tremors that can cause tsunamis.

Although all countries send each other the information they receive, experts in each country still have to use their experience and knowledge to assess the disaster and when it enters their country.

China has been affected by tsunamis 100 years ago. Because these killer waves did not appear so often, the tsunami study in the country was not studied until 1983 - when China joined PTWC. Currently, China does not have a system of monitoring and forecasting tsunamis at the provincial level.
