The new fish species is named after Guiyang city - capital of Guizhou province - where this fish was discovered in 2019.

This fish is blind and its eyes have degenerated into black spots without a complete eye structure.

This may be due to the environment where the fish lives, which has no light. The number of this fish species is very small, only 25 fish.

Recent surveys show that the number of these fish continues to decline.

Researchers warn that the fish species Sinocyclocheilus guiyang is at high risk of extinction due to pollution from waste and threatening shrimp species.

Therefore, it is necessary to immediately take measures to protect the habitat of the above fish species.
