Scientists at the University of Wisconsin (USA) and the Age-Related Eye Disease Research Group (CAREDS) report that carotenoids contain carotenoids in the vegetables and this helps reduce the risk of vision loss. due to old age (AMD).

They studied 1,787 women aged 50-79 years in Wisconsin and Oregon. All of these people were given blood samples to measure carotenoid levels and retinal imaging to determine AMD. These people must also answer their diet questionnaire for 15 years before the study begins.

The results of the study found that women under 75 years of age consumed regular carotenoids during this 15-year period - no AMD or chronic disease, cardiovascular disease, diabetes or high blood pressure - less risk of AMD compared to the other group.

AMD is the leading cause of blindness in older people, especially women. There is currently no cure for AMD, and current treatment only works to slow the disease process.

From the study, scientists recommend that older women eat more carotenoid-rich vegetables to slow their vision and lead to blindness. Carotenoids are found in chicken egg yolk, broccoli, beans, kale, spinach, radish, especially in corn and pumpkin.
