The Center for International Tropical Agriculture Research (CIAT) and Tay Nguyen University implemented the project 'Improving systems to nourish grazing cattle in households in the Development Triangle Area of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia ".
This is a scientific project to apply technical advances in the field of cattle breeding in the Central Highlands as well as the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Economic Development Triangle to promote socio-economic development and improvement. life for farmers, increasing safety for farm households. In particular, the target of the project is small livestock households, especially ethnic minorities.
The project was implemented in 4 years (2012 - 2015) funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The project consists of three main components: 'Improving livestock farming systems through plantation', 'Market improvement' and 'Capacity building and knowledge sharing'.
The purpose of the project is to increase livelihoods and incomes for the poor and smallholder farmers in the Vietnam-Laos-Cambodia Development Triangle area.
Localities implement the project with a part of material investment, creating conditions for farmers to apply technical advances to nourish herbivores; and at the same time identify the environmental impact factors that affect livestock production of smallholder farmers.
In the process of implementing the project, localities are allowed to reorganize production in animal husbandry, arrange the structure of rational cattle grazing in each area, make use of natural grass fields in combination with grass planting. high quality and intensive application of grass; production of food sources for cattle and buffaloes.
Localities arrange reasonable livestock-farming production in smallholder farmers, on the basis of taking advantage of natural conditions of land, grassland, water resources, rural labor capacity and progressive application. Technical into livestock.
The project aims to develop animal husbandry associated with the consumer market and create linkages between livestock households with the livestock market and product consumption chain.
Through the implementation of the project, create conditions for smallholder farmers to become familiar with the conditions of production and business innovation, market access to products from livestock, promote linkages in the market chain. domestic school and cross border 3 countries.
In Dak Nong, the project is implemented in Cu Jut district. This is a land with favorable natural and ecological conditions to implement activities of the project to develop grass-eating cattle. With the recent experience, Cu Jut has also succeeded in implementing the project "Improving the quality of beef cattle breeds" and being expanded to other districts in Dak Nong province.
Currently, CIAT staff and researchers, agricultural extension workers in the Central Highlands provinces are supporting farmers to access techniques of planting and tending plants for animal feed and instructing farmers how to link effective for the market. This will increase the livelihood of livestock farmers through technical improvements, increase product quality competitiveness, improve land use efficiency and utilize rural labor resources.
