Successfully rearing red pheasant species in the Central Highlands

With determination and desire to learn, Mr. Van Minh The, born in 1980 in Hamlet 6, Ea Bar Commune, Buon Don District, Dak Lak Province, successfully raised red pheasant species on the Central Highlands.

Red pheasant brings back to his family hundreds of millions of profits every year.

People in village 6, commune Ea Bar, Buon Don district (Dak Lak) have been living in the past by cutting firewood, which is both toxic and destructive to the environment, but the income is not much. After a careful period of understanding the animal husbandry models, he decided to invest in raising red pheasant because in the Central Highlands, people raise this type of bird.

Exhausted all the savings and borrowed nearly 30 million VND, in mid-2012, he and his wife went to Kim Bang district, Ha Nam province to learn the trade and buy seeds.

Long distance, unable to transport the seed, he ventured to buy 150 eggs (costing 50,000 VND / fruit) to Dak Lak to try. After nearly a month sending the hamlet at the incubator, the number of eggs only hatched was 34.

Stubbornly capitalized, he sent money to buy 100 more eggs and hatched 34 more. The technique of taking care of red pheasant is partly learned through books, newspapers, internet but mainly raising and withdrawing experience.

After 6 months of raising, he picked up 7 sets of breeds (each of 3 females, 1 male) and the rest sold nearly 40 million VND to recover capital. Up to now, his family has sold two more pheasant breeds, earning more than 100 million dong. Currently his family has more than 100 children, including 28 children during the reproductive period.

Anh said that the red pheasant is a new animal that is a rare animal so the price is quite high. Young birds hatch in 20 days of age and sell for 150 thousand VND / head, 1 month old birds sell 200 thousand VND / head, 3-4 month old birds cost 700-800 thousand VND / head, females prepare to lay eggs for millions of VND each .

There are beautiful male birds that can sell several million VND to birdwatchers. In addition to customers from the provinces in the province, farmers in Gia Lai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen also heard the sound of his family's orders.

According to his experience, investing in pheasant and chicken farming is not much different from breeding facilities and food. However, raising pheasant has a higher success rate because it is a wild animal so the resistance is better. Feed for birds is also simple and easy to find, mainly rice bran, corn, synthetic bran for chickens, green vegetables, grass .

Red pheasant only eats food with 1/3 of chicken so it saves a lot of breeding costs. Just feed the bird once a day, next to the feed trough, there must always be a sand and gravel trough for the bird. Water for drinking birds must be clean

The male pheasant is very fast, a female can lay a 3-month round of about 90 eggs. Eggs after 25 to 27 days of hatching are hatched into young birds. Take care of newly hatched birds like taking care of chicks.

The climate in the Central Highlands is very suitable for this bird. In the North, it takes 7-8 months for the first-born bird to breed, the weight of the adult bird is only 1.2-1.4kg / head, but the bird is raised by Mr. Anh's family for only 6 months, laying eggs and weighing over 1 , 5kg / head .

Thanks to raising red pheasant, the family of Mr. Can escaped poverty and had many new plans for the future.'I am refurbishing the barn to feed about 60 parents. Products sold to the market are not only breeding birds, ornamental birds but also commercial pheasants. If any young person needs to raise red haemorrhoids, I am willing to provide technical guidance and support the seed ' - Mr. Can shared.
