Farmers caught strange birds spanning over 2m

The strange bird weighs 3.2kg, wingspan of more than 2m, black and white feathers has been discovered by people in Ha Tinh in a state of exhaustion so take care.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Chung (32 years old, living in Tung Loc commune, Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province) and his family by motorbike driving through a field in the area on August 24 when he discovered a big bird trapped in a rice field.

Closer to see, they found a strange bird with large size, black and white feathers, wide wingspan trying to struggle with signs of exhaustion should be taken home to care.

Many people in the area learned that they had come to see and offered to buy the bird for a high price, but Chung did not sell it.

"The strange bird weighs 3.2kg, spreads its wings wider than 2m. I have informed the local authorities, waiting for the bird's good health to hand over to the authorities to handle," Mr. Chung said.

Mr. Dang Thanh Binh, Chief of Tung Loc Commune Police, said that the authorities are identifying birds and carrying out procedures for receiving and releasing birds into the natural environment.

According to a ranger, through appearance, initially identified this individual may be Gia Day bird, also known as Stork, belonging to the crane family . In Vietnam, this bird belongs to rare animals.

Gia Day is a species of bird of the crane family (Ciconiidae) which is usually 87-93cm long, weighs 4-5.7kg and stands tall at 110-120cm.

Like other birds in its genus, Old Day has a neck and bald head. This species ranges from India to mainland Southeast Asia to the island of Java. This species is in the Vietnam Red Data Book, belonging to group 1B.
