Fossils suspected of being evidence of monsters eating whales

Kraken is a giant squid monster in Norse mythology that can swallow whales and boats. Legends describe this sea creature as 1.6 kilometers long.

An American researcher gave fossil evidence of the existence of a given squid monster 1.6 km long, which can swallow whales.

in Norse mythology can swallow whales and boats. Legends describe this sea creature as 1.6 kilometers long. Although Kraken is mentioned for the first time in the 13th century Icelandic folktale Örvar-Oddr, a researcher thinks there is fossil evidence about this creature, according to Ancient Origins.

Discovered in 2011, fossils of a sea lizard with strange marks can be caused by a Kraken-like animal. Despite many criticisms, Professor Mark McMenamin, a paleontologist at Mount Holyoke University in Massachusetts, USA, still provides more evidence to reinforce the conclusion.

A spinal fossil has an unusual arrangement of marine reptiles found in Berlin-Ichthyosaur State Park in Nevada, USA. Fossils belong to a fish lizard that lived 200 million to 250 million years ago. The distribution of the bones suggests that it was attacked by a much larger predator, possibly a giant octopus or squid that dominated the ocean at that time. It is estimated that the creature that defeated the fish lizard must be about 30 meters long, far beyond the giant Pacific octopus, the largest octopus of today.

The fossil discovery of a part of the giant ink's quarry, along with many bones with tentacles, seems to reinforce the theory of Professor McMenamin. A pile of broken bones was also found beside the lizard's body.

Professor McMenamin identified the arrangement of the skeleton and the tentacle position indicating that fish lizards were submerged or squeezed around the neck. It is most likely to be dragged by the Kraken-like monster to the lair and dumped there.

However, researchers still believe that more convincing evidence is needed before giving an accurate conclusion about the existence of Kraken monsters in practice.
