On February 7, EADS announced the official results of the Search for technology solutions to save fishermen before a storm. This is the first EADS technology solutions competition held in Vietnam, starting from October 2011.
The participating teams have to go through 2 rounds of competition to write a project submitted online to the organizers for approval and presentation and protection of ideas at the EADS office in Hanoi. Overcoming many units from universities and research institutes throughout the country, FPT's research group includes Vu Trong Thu - FSpace Space Research Department, Pham Quang Hung (FPT University) and Dao Van Thang (School Foreign Trade University), won the highest position.

The theme of the contest encourages the authors to seek technological solutions to minimize human damage to fishermen before the storm. After studying, analyzing information, based on experimental results on long-range communication on HF band (based on ionosphere reflex) and via Moon surface reflection, FSpace space research team has provided digital communication solutions for fishing vessels with shore stations on HF band and backup communication channel via small satellite beam on VHF / UHF band.
The unique feature of this technology solution is the application of advanced digital signal modulation methods with high reliability (can demodulate signals with very low SNR to -29dB), using bandwidth Very small (6Hz size), support multiple access for up to 30,000 fishing vessels.
The fishing vessel terminal automatically collects weather forecasts or predicts the storm's path, automatically alerts fishermen to avoid accidents and automatically sends emergency signals to shore. and the ships around in an emergency.

In addition, the idea of small satellite beam design (nano-satellite) with a mass of 3kg, which is responsible for transmitting packets as well as supervising the operation of ships is also highly appreciated by the judges.
The prize for the best group is 4,000 USD and the trip to Singapore for 3 people to attend the award, takes place in the air show at the Lion Island nation on February 14. The winning team will also be invited to EADS Innovation Works research center in Singapore to visit and learn about the jobs here.
According to Mr. Vu Trong Thu, the most important thing in this award is that Vietnamese young engineers and students can take charge of the design and implementation of the idea. This award will expand cooperation opportunities of FPT Research Institute with EADS, domestic and foreign scientific research units.
FPT Research Institute said it would use the bonus money to continue investing, perfecting its project in order to concretize the idea of "Saving fishermen before a storm".
