Telegraph said the giant squid was discovered on the coast of Tottori Prefecture, western Japan. The squid is 3.3 meters long and weighs nearly 100kg still alive when seen inside the fishing net.
The Tottori Fisheries Association said they found squid on the evening of January 20 while catching nets and crabs. The squid died before being brought to shore a day later.

According to the San'in Kaigan Natural Museum specialists in Tottori, the squid can reach nearly 8m in length if its tentacles are intact. When discovered, its two longest tentacles were lost.
Experts say the ammonium content in the squid makes it unpleasant and hard to eat. This giant ink will be preserved for research purposes.
Giant squid usually live at a level of about 300-1,200m above sea level. However, this giant squid was discovered at a depth of 240m.
In an interview with NTV, a researcher named Toshifumi Wada said giant squid was rarely discovered while pulling a fishing net.
However, this is one of many cases of discovering giant squid in Japan in the past. A giant 4-meter squid was discovered by fishermen off Sadogashima Island, Niigata Prefecture, on January 8.
