Green technology research: Opportunities for Vietnamese scientists

March 19-21, International Scientific Conference on

From March 19 to 21, the International Scientific Conference on 'Chemistry of mechanical frame materials - related materials and materials' by the Ministry of Science and Technology (Science and Technology), Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (National University of Ho Chi Minh City) and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) co-organized.

In particular, the workshop was attended by Prof. Omar Yaghi from UCLA. Prof. Omar Yaghi is the person who invented and synthesized the alloy material materials (MOF), thereby opening new research directions in world materials science and technology. These studies have rich application potential in the fields of solar energy conversion into electricity, storage and separation of gases and catalysts.

MOF material

MOF material is a high porosity material formed by a combination of metal-bound organic matter to create a three-dimensional space frame structure with stable pores. One of the salient features of this material is its extremely large surface, up to thousands of square meters for 1g.

In other words, only 1 gram of MOF material has the same surface area as a football field. Because MOF has a very high porosity, it is possible to store gases that people do not want to discharge directly into the environment such as carbonic, or store gases to fuel cars.

Prof. Yaghi said that this workshop not only creates opportunities for Vietnamese scientists and students to interact with the world's leading scientists but also an opportunity to inform the world scientific community about the birth of MANAR Vietnam Center - a new model of research collaboration between Ho Chi Minh City National University and UCLA.

Currently, Prof. Omar Yaghi is working very well with research centers in North America, Netherlands, Germany, France, Japan, Korea, and Qatar. These centers together create a global MANAR system. MANAR Vietnam Center will be a member of the global MANAR system and have the opportunity to cooperate with centers in this system.
