In early 2006, Ha Giang province implemented the project " Conservation and development of rare and precious genetic resources, protecting biodiversity in Thai Phin Tung commune, Dong Van district ". This is a project funded by the Global Environment Fund to conserve and develop 4 rare and endangered conifer species that have been discovered by scientists in Thai Phin Tung commune.

Four rare and precious conifer species discovered in Thai Phin Tung commune are: short-leaf bamboo pine (Podopcarps pilgri), northern red pine (Taxus chinensis), Amentotaxus hatuyenensis (Cupressus funebris), and Cupressus funebris). is determined to have particularly high economic and ecological value.

In order to preserve and develop these 4 rare and precious plant species, in addition to organizing for ethnic people living in the area, there are 4 species of rare plants that understand and are responsible for strengthening protection, not exploiting . Project staff have propagated these varieties. Among the four existing species in Thai Phin Tung, only the northern red pine was propagated by cuttings and succeeded in 1993. The remaining 3 species were first propagated by successful cuttings at Thuy Phin Tung.

The project has invested in construction in Phai Phin Tung house with homeland with an area of 200 m 2 and in early 2006 scientists and technicians have applied technical measures to implement nearly 10,000 species cuttings. Rare and precious conifer trees. The monitoring showed that after 6 months, over 90% of the cuttings were propagated, with roots of 2 to 3 cm in length. By the end of last September, a number of well-developed cuttings were planted under the forest canopy and the remaining stems will be planted in the next spring crop.
