The color of the shrimp doubles in the middle of the body, the left half is red and the right half is black. Most likely this is the result of a genetic mutation that occurs only in one of 50 million lobsters, according to fishery scientist Matt Thaluhauser.

Captain Daryl Dunham, who found a two-colored lobster near the Stonington Islands southwest of Bar Harbor, presented it to the Maine Coastal Fisheries Center. The special male lobster will stay with two spotted lobsters and one equally blue lobster.

The lobster will spend some time in the display tank, where visitors can touch its shell. The staff will then drop it back into New England Bay.
