Spanish doctors have successfully implanted two hands for a 47-year-old woman.
This patient, Alba, 47, came from Castellón, was amputated in an explosion 28 years ago while doing a chemical experiment.
At a press conference yesterday (December 11), Pedro Cavadas, the head of the surgery team, said the 10-hour operation was carried out at La Fe de Valencia hospital. It is expected that the two new hands of the patient will have a feeling in the next 5-6 months.
This is the first time in the world a woman has had two-arm transplant surgery. Previously, there were 6 others who had similar operations in France, Austria and China, but all of them were male.
