Although the girl was discharged in a stable condition on March 3, the subsequent test results showed that the patient was positive for H7N9 virus and had to continue treatment.
According to the Hong Kong Department of Health, this past February, the girl traveled with her family to Guangdong Province for three weeks and was taken to a market by her mother, but did not buy poultry.
The agency said family members and patients at the first hospital who received the girl as well as others who had contact with the patient would be examined and monitored.
Since the outbreak in mainland China in February 2013, China has so far confirmed a total of 370 cases of H7N9 influenza virus infection, mostly in the South, of which only in January alone 127 case with 31 deaths.
Also in January, Hong Kong had to destroy 20,000 chickens after discovering the virus in poultry imported from Guangdong, then prolonged the ban on the import of live poultry from the mainland.
