How salty ocean?

Of course everyone knows seawater is salty, but the concentration here is different. When you know the level of salt in the ocean, it is easier to unlock mysteries such as rainfall or global flow.

In June this year, the US Space Administration (NASA) launched the Aquarius / SAC-D satellite to fly around the earth with specialized equipment, working hard over time. Up to now, a temporary map of salinity of some areas around the world has been developed (photo). These data help scientists predict the flow of freshwater circulating in the ocean and thereby predict the climate model.

In the first stage map, where the color is red, yellow is high salinity; The low level is blue and purple, while the black place has not collected enough data. The difference in salinity in the Pacific and the Atlantic is quite obvious, besides the sweetness of the Amazon River down to the sea. NASA said there was a very interesting disparity between the relatively high salinity in the arid Arabian Sea in the western subcontinent of India compared to the east of the Bay of Bengal. It is due to the domination of the Ganges River and the wind and rain in the South Asian region.

Aquarius / SAC-D satellites operate with three microwave radio transceivers that act and collect feedback from the water; depending on the conductivity of the water, determine the salt content in it. According to the Daily Mail , ships used to perform ocean salinity measurements, but it is very time-consuming while data collection is also very limited. NASA satellite maps monthly with much higher accuracy.

Ocean salinity is measured in grams of salt in a kilogram of seawater. Previously, the error was 32 to 37 parts per thousand. But, NASA hopes that it is possible to correct the error to 0.2 milliseconds, which means it can consider the difference in milligrams of salt in every 6 liters of water.
