HP in the Asia-Pacific region has announced a free battery replacement program for 3,768 laptop battery packs for some HP and Compaq notebooks.

HP in the Asia-Pacific region has announced a free battery replacement program for 3,768 laptop battery packs for some HP and Compaq notebooks.

This is a global voluntary battery recovery program coordinated by HP and the US Product Safety Commission.

In 2005, the number of laptop batteries included in this program in the Asia-Pacific region accounted for 0.23% of the total amount of batteries used in this region (including Japan) - data based on IDC's report in the Asia-Pacific region in the fourth quarter of 2005.

HP and battery manufacturers have identified the amount of battery changed in this program produced from January 1, 2005 to January 10, 2005. According to HP, these batteries are less likely to be unsafe for customers. To date, 20 cases have been reported, of which 11 cases were slightly affected by property and a slight health injury.

The batteries included in this program include batteries used for the following computers: HP Pavilion dv1000 series; Compaq Presario V2000 series of fine machines; M2000 computer line; HP Pavilion ze2000 series; HP Compaq nx4800 computers.

All computer batteries included in the program include batteries with bar codes starting with L3 and will be exchanged for free.
