The old oak tree turned out to reveal a 1000-year-old skeleton

According to NYDaily News, the last winter storm in Sligo, Ireland made the old oak tree uproot, revealing part of the spine and the skull of the remains in the tree roots, while the leg bones were still underground. .

"The fallen tree caused the skeleton to split into two parts," said Dr. Marion Dowd, Sligo-Leitrim Archaeological Center (SLAS), on September 15. The skeleton is defined as a 17-20 year old youth who dies around 1030-1200.

Signs of injury are found on the ribs and hands, most likely slashed by a sword or a knife. Maybe this person had fled and died afterwards. This person was determined to be about 1.78m high, significantly more than the average height of 1.7m of the man at that time.

"He was buried in a grave lying on the east-west axis, his hands on his hips," Dowd explained. "Obviously the family or community buried him in a Catholic rite."

This is very strange, Dowd said. Although records from the 19th century show there are churches and cemeteries in this area, but no archaeological evidence has ever been found. Therefore, "it is unknown whether he is buried in the cemetery, or in an empty land".

Archaeologists hope, further analysis of the remains will tell a lot about medieval life in Sligo.
