According to the ILO, the number of workers injured by work accidents amounted to 270 million and 160 million others suffered from work-related illnesses. Estimates, this occupational accident and disease cause an annual loss of about 4% of the gross domestic product of global GDP, approximately 20 times the total global official development aid.
According to ILO Sameera Maziadi Al - Tuwaijri Work Safety Program Director, practice shows that the majority of occupational accidents are preventable. He also called on governments, employers and workers in countries to take more determined actions to combat workers' accidents and occupational diseases.
The ILO report is published in response to the "International Day of Occupational Health and Safety", also emphasizing that appropriate preventive measures will help improve employee productivity.
