Mehr quoted the survey director of Iran National Oil Company (NIOC), Seyyed Mahmoud Mohaddes, said the gas field was found in one of the largest oil fields in Khuzestan province.

According to Mohaddes, people drilled a 5,000m deep well to learn more about the conditions of the mine and the natural gas reserves in it.

The information was confirmed by Iranian Oil Ministry. South Pars mine, also known as North Dome mine, is the largest natural gas field in the world, located between Iran and Qatar.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the mine has an estimated reserve of 51,000 billion cubic meters of gas in place and about 7.9 billion cubic meters of condensate gas. The mine stretches over an area of ​​9,700 km 2 , of which 3,700 km 2 belongs to Iranian territory called Nam Pars, and 6,000 km 2 belongs to Qatar territory, called North Dome.
