Laptop with 14-hour fuel battery

UltraCell (California, USA) has launched a 0.9-kg battery at Intel Developer Forum (IDF), supporting laptops to operate continuously for nearly 15 hours.

William Hill, deputy market manager of UltraCell, said these models will be available in 2007 for less than $ 500.

UltraCell's product, which uses methanol, costs about $ 4 per bottle. These methanol bottles can be reproduced. Fuel cells convert oxygen and hydrogen into water and electricity. However, the complexity and high production costs have made it impossible for them to appear on the market. Currently, many researchers are looking to apply technology in cars, mobile phones and many other electronic devices.

Meanwhile, Intel is cautious when it comes to the future of fuel cells. The chip maker did not believe that the technology using this technology would develop soon. They outlined many challenges such as barriers to distribution, regulation, approvals for aircraft use . and claims fuel cells would take at least 10 years to prosper.
