Researchers at Jena University in Germany surveyed more than 6,000 patients and found that those who tried to suppress and swallow their anger would suffer electrical impulses in their bodies.
Over time, these impulses will lead to high blood pressure and an increased risk of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and kidney damage.
Dr. Marcus Mund, who conducted the study - said it was easy to identify those who repressed emotions because they often tried to hide their fears and proved very defensive.
He said: 'People who suppress emotions will find ways to avoid risks and better control themselves. However, when faced with a stressful problem, their hearts will beat faster and the pulse rate will also rise higher than those who do not have to repress emotions. '
However, suppressing emotions is not entirely bad. Although there is a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases than others, people who control themselves can recover from many diseases more quickly. Besides, because they need to control themselves, these people are also very disciplined and more easily adapted to their lives.
