The round maggot has a long, rat-like tail that frightens the British woman when she crawls around the house.

Bex Deen, a resident of Southampton, England, recorded a 13cm-long strange body with a stout body like a sausage and a tail-like tail slithering around the corner, The Sun reported. Most likely it is a maggot tail larger than normal, hatched from yellow-eyed mole flies.

In the video, the maggot crawls like a worm but is much larger in size. It only has a tail without a face or limb. When the woman asked friends to determine which species it was, some claimed it was a maggot.

The tail of the rat tail sometimes has a body less than 2.5cm long but the tail size can be up to 15cm when straightened. It is an immature stage of the yellow-eyed fly, shaped like a honey bee. The tail is used as a breathing tube when the maggot is submerged under water because it has no gills.

The rat tail is often found in stagnant water such as lagoons and manure pits. This insect causes a lot of trouble when crawling out of the breeding area to find a dry place ready to transform into adult flies. Deen also expressed concern that the maggots had escaped.
