Magnesium is more important to children's bones than calcium

For a long time, pediatricians often advise parents to give their children regular milk and calcium-containing foods to prevent bone diseases. However, new studies show that magnesium is even more important than calcium.

According to The Daily Mail, a new study says, pumpkin seeds, black chocolate, almonds and salmon are also important in children's diets.

These are very rich in magnesium, essential for building bones, according to Steven Abrams, professor of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine (USA). He claimed that Magnesium was more important than calcium , unlike what people often perceive.

In fact, the role of magnesium has been demonstrated in older people. But for children this is the first study. Prof. Abrams and colleagues analyzed the health status of 63 completely healthy children aged 4 to 8 years (they did not add any bioactive substance to the normal diet).

The medics accurately calculated calcium and magnesium levels in their diets and their bodies. Their urine samples are tested for chemical composition (the concentration of stable isotopes in minerals will show how much calcium and magnesium are absorbed by the body).

The results of analyzing the concentration of minerals in food and their concentrations that bone absorbs are determined by the method of absorbing the X-ray. They allow to conclude that magnesium itself plays an important role in the formation of bone tissue. Meanwhile, calcium does not show an effect.
