On December 4, 2013, VNREDSat-1 satellite system was handed over to the Vietnamese side in 3 months. So far, we can affirm that Vietnam has mastered this satellite, the Management Board of the Small Satellite Project (Space Technology Institute) has said.

>>>Research management, operation and exploitation of VNREDSat-1

The team of engineers operating at the Center for Small Satellite Control and Exploitation at the Institute of Space Technology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has combined with Remote Sensing Camera Station, Remote Sensing Department, The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has been fully active in operating the VNREDSat-1 system.

Process of implementing tasks of VNREDSat-1 system

Specifically, the team thought to control, set a working schedule for the satellite, receive and process photo products as well as safely handle incidents of the system. As a result, after 3 months of operation, VNREDSat-1 satellite can capture high resolution images anywhere on the surface of the earth. The total number of photos taken, processed and successfully stored is 18,427 photos with a size of 17.5 km x 17.5 km, including 9,817 multi-spectral images (Multi-spectral) and 8,610 full-color images (Panchromatic) .

For the territory and territorial waters of Vietnam, VNREDSat-1 system captured and processed 4,003 scenes, including 2,018 multi-spectral images and 1,985 full-color images. These photo products have been handed over to user groups and are judged to be of good quality, highly topical, timely and effective. In particular, the image products of the VNREDSat-1 system have shown superiority in highly specific tasks such as security and defense.

In addition, to effectively exploit the satellite image data source VNREDSat-1 in the period of waiting for completion of necessary legal documents, the two agencies are the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Finance. Natural Resources and Environment agreed to issue Official Dispatch No. 2091 / VHL-KHTC and Official Letter No. 4862 / BTNMT-TC, allowing the National Remote Sensing Bureau to provide VNREDSat-1 satellite images to agencies and groups trial, personal use test. Accordingly, users can contact to request VNREDSat-1 directly through the National Remote Sensing Department at an agreed cost.

This policy is expected to accelerate the further development of the remote sensing product user network in general and VNREDSat-1 in particular. This can also be considered a timely and effective point of the Project to achieve the goal of effectively exploiting the VNREDSat-1 satellite system.
