This rare astronomical phenomenon has been recorded by a traffic camera and witnessed by many locals on November 21.
The video shows that traffic is crowded on a road near Johannesburg, when a shooting star suddenly appears in the night sky. The original star with a bright blue color then suddenly exploded in the horizon, turning into a brilliant orange fireball.
A witness told The Sun: " We saw a giant blue fireball. It was like suddenly appearing from the horizon."
"Then the light flashed, followed by a brilliant explosion that made the sky as bright as day."
Claire Flanagan, an expert at Johannesburg Planetarium, said meteorites often land on the ground but few see it.
