More than 50% of women are infected with HPV
HPV (human papillomavirus) is an " inevitable cause" of cervical cancer (CTC), because the prevalence of HPV in people with cervical cancer worldwide is up to 99.7%.
Every woman who is sexually active is at risk of contracting HPV with the ability to produce tumors and thereby cause cervical cancer. It is estimated that up to 50-80% of women are infected with HPV in their lifetime. Among them, up to 50% of infected people are likely to have cancer. This information was presented at the ' New Era in CTC cancer management conference in Asia - Pacific ', recently held in the Philippines.
In the world every two minutes a woman dies of cervical cancer, resulting in about 270,000 deaths every year. Currently, cervical cancer can be screened and detected early by a CTC test (PAP test) and can be prevented by vaccination.
