NASA is developing a satellite system called CYGNSS (Global Vortex Positioning Satellite System) to predict the path of major storms across the planet.

NASA uses the CYGNSS satellite system to predict the storm's path

It consists of 8 small satellites that work together to monitor, analyze and make predictions about storm activity . NASA said that this approach will yield more accurate results than using a large-sized satellite like tradition.

CYGNSS is the first satellite system to be able to observe a storm, thus estimating the wind speed and movement of air vortices. At the same time, it will also continuously capture the storm with frequency every few hours instead of a few days as before. Thus, meteorologists will get more accurate and proactive information in the process of evacuating people and preventing storms . The system is expected to start operating in the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season.
