New findings about the blood of recovered patients could solve the ventilator problem.

Recent research has shown that plasma from recovered individuals can be an effective treatment for patients infected with Covid-19.

The Telegraph reported on April 8th that research showed 10 critically ill Covid-19 patients recovered quickly after being treated with plasma from previously recovered patients. This is the first study on the possibility that antibodies, present in the blood of recovered Covid-19 patients, can help other patients recover.

The study involved 10 patients aged 34 to 78 with severe symptoms such as shortness of breath and chest pain. The patients received 200 ml of plasma from a previously recovered donor. Within 3 days, all symptoms subsided. Notably, one 42-year-old patient was able to stop using a ventilator just 2 days after receiving the plasma.

Scientists from Shanghai Jiao Tong Medical University say that using plasma in the treatment of Covid-19 is a safe and promising method for severe cases , and are calling for larger-scale trials.

However, British health experts say that more large-scale studies are needed to ensure the use of plasma is safe and effective before it can be widely implemented.

"The trial was conducted selectively, with all patients simultaneously receiving other treatments, including drugs like remdesivir, which is also currently used to treat Covid-19," commented Munir Pirmohamed, Chairman of the British Pharmacological Society.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the use of plasma therapy in clinical trials and for critically ill patients when other methods have proven ineffective.
