Experts at Sophos have just warned users about the new Bagle worm that is spreading online with the message of providing free winter Olympics tickets to Italy.
W32 / Bagle-CM worms are often included in e-mails with titles like: ' FREE OLYMPIC TICKETS LOTTERY !', ' 2006 Winter Games in Torino ', ' 2006 Torino Winter Games FREE Tickets '. Attachments containing Bagle worm attached to these emails are usually ' Generated_bill.exe, Order_details.exe, or Service_receipt.exe '.
The contents of these emails faked a notice of a company selling winter Olympics tickets - including tickets to the closing night - in Turin. However, if the user opens the attachment, the Bagle worm will be launched to steal the information on the user's computer and open the door for malicious hackers to take control of the remote system.
Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos, said: ' This latest variant of the Bagle worm has taken advantage of the winter Olympics to spread on targeted networks that infect people' s systems. careless. Companies that use automated antivirus software and use strong security policies at gateway email will be able to block Bagle worms as well as many other computer worms . '
