NigieriaSat2 is Nigeria 's second observation satellite , replacing the NigieriaSat1 satellite that has been put into orbit since 2003, to maintain the provision of high-resolution Earth image data.
Nigerian Minister of Science and Technology, Ita Ewa, said that NigieriaSat-X satellites were built entirely in the country. The two new satellites will send data to ground monitoring stations located at the headquarters of the National Space Research Agency in Abuja, Nigeria's capital.
Two Nigerian satellites were put into orbit with five satellites from other countries (including Rasat satellite of Tuynidi, Edusat of Italy, two American Arsat 5 and 6 satellites, and Sitch satellite of Ukraine) thanks a rocket. The Russian company Dnepr was hired to carry out the launch.
