In an effort to standardize a mobile web browser, Nokia, yesterday (May 24), announced its mobile web browser source code.
Last year, Nokia designed this browser exclusively for S60 mobile phones using the same code framework as Apple's Safari browser, and added a number of new upgrades designed specifically for Mobile web browsing.
Currently, manufacturers and operators of mobile network services can download the main engine of Nokia mobile web browser and customize according to their own requirements.
' We want to minimize the existing fragmentation in mobile web browser ,' said Lee Epting, vice president for Forum Nokia. (Forum Nokia is a software development support program).
Nokia browser source code is provided in the form of a BSD license. This is considered the most extensive license, it allows people to use Nokia's source code to develop into another commercial product.
Meanwhile, Opera Software believes that Nokia's latest move will not have much impact. ' Its value is limited to the open source community ,' Hakon Lie, Opera's executive technical director, said. ' The volume of code that Nokia has released is still very limited compared to what Nokia has retained. That is not enough and is not useful for mobile browser developers . '
The source code of Nokia announced includes features such as the ability to operate in low memory capacity, the mouse cursor makes browsing the web easier like browsing on the computer for sale, dynamic HTML support and AJAX technology.
Nokia began providing the browser browser for users of the S60 product line, including Siemens products, from the end of last year. It is expected that in the future, the browser will be available on all S60 series products, the E series and the N series.
