Founded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Internet SiteAdvisor, warning that about 5% of web traffic is currently listed as "red alert".

SiteAdvisor is deploying a trial version of free software that can give Safe (Caution), Caution (Caution) or Warning (Alarm) notifications every time a user visits a website. The system with the corresponding blue, yellow and red colors will help people identify sites containing spyware, viruses, browser vulnerabilities or online scams .

SiteAdvisor software is compatible with Internet Explorer and Firefox. In addition to the color ranking system in the browser and on the Google, Yahoo, MSN . search site, SiteAdvisor also opens the Site Report page, providing test results for every website that the system has detected. For example, 10/18 results with the keyword "screensavers" on Google's tool are labeled Warning.

Since its release, the service has statistics and analyzed websites with a total of 95% of current web traffic. In addition, SiteAdvisor discovered about 475,000 files downloaded by users, including adware, spyware and viruses.
