Many people think that early sleeping and early rising habits make us healthy, lucid and rich. But the scientists of Liege University (Belgium) have proved that reality is not entirely true.

The team recruited several dozen volunteers and asked them to sleep on a daily routine for two consecutive nights. On average, the group wakes up early from the bed in front of the late-night group of 4 hours. Volunteers then perform some tasks that require intense concentration. While volunteers work, the team uses high-speed magnetic resonance imaging to monitor the activity of brain regions involved in concentration.

The results showed that the concentration of all volunteers was the same after waking up. But after 10 hours, the activity in the brain regions that control the focus of the early riser group is markedly reduced, while the concentration of the late-night group remains unchanged. When doing the work in the evening, the early riser group is more likely to fall asleep and perform slower movements than the group that stays up late.

Some previous studies have demonstrated that human biological clocks are controlled by a number of genes. It is these genes that regulate whether we like to stay up late or get up early. Scientists who conduct these studies claim that people who stay up late are more creative, remember better, manipulate faster than early risers. Therefore, they also tend to earn more money.

Many celebrities in human history have a habit of staying up late. For example, Charles Darwin (father of evolutionary theory) and Winston Churchill (former British prime minister in World War II) often went to bed at 4 am and got up late. Due to that habit Winston Churchill often presided over the war cabinet meetings from the bathroom.

Some scientists argue that early rising and staying up late habits originate from evolution. In the Stone Age, those who took up the search for food had to get up early, and those who took care of the watch had to stay up late. When humanity enters the stage of breeding and cultivation, early rising is considered necessary, while individuals staying up late are often classified as not hardworking.
