A solar park is being built in Puerto Rico, to reduce dependence on oil energy.
The $ 36 million solar energy park is located in Salinas town in South Puerto Rico, procured by two joint ventures, Yarotek and Sonnedix. The groundbreaking ceremony of the project was conducted on October 31 last.
According to local officials, the park uses green energy to initially provide enough electricity for 2,500 households.
Both contractors promised to launch another large solar project in the coastal town of Isabela in the north and Yabucoa town in southeast Puerto Rico.
With an ideal terrain including Puerto Rico's main island and several other small islands, Puerto Rico hopes to become the Caribbean's largest wind farm and solar project soon.
Both projects are being built in the southern part of the island.
