Sanyo, Lenovo shared battery recovery costs
Sanyo Electric announced last weekend that it will share
Over the weekend, Sanyo Electric announced it would share "financial burden" with Lenovo Group in the recent recall of laptop batteries.
On March 1, Lenovo Group had to announce the recovery of about 205,000 potential laptop batteries with the risk of fire produced by Sanyo. The manufacturer said that the recalled batteries in this batch could become too hot and fiery if they were accidentally dropped into a hard ground.
Lenovo said that so far it has received five reports of battery overheating and damage to laptops. A customer had minor eye injuries due to difficulty and sparks fired from the battery.
Sanyo spokesman Akihiko Oiwa said Lenovo and Sanyo have agreed to share but have not yet reached a final decision on how to share "financial burden".
" This financing will not affect the sales of the two companies ," Sanyo spokesman said.
The battery recall caused Sanyo's stock to fall by 4.2%. However, executive vice president of Fuji Investment Fund Yoshihisa Okamoto still said it would not affect Sanyo's reputation much.
" The battery recall is probably just a small blip in Sanyo's business. It does not cause concern for the company. What it needs to worry about is the investigation by the Marketing Supervision Commission. School of Securities (SESC) for their mobile phone business ".
This incident prompted the industry to remember the biggest recall of laptop batteries ever made in August last year. It is also the product of a Japanese electronics company - Sony. This "battery recovery storm" has "swept across the territory" of most of the big names in the PC manufacturing industry.
