Ministry of Industry and Trade has just announced the Earth Hour 2014 campaign, with the lights off ceremony taking place from 20h30 to 21h30 on March 29 at August Revolution Square. Mr. Duong Quang Thanh, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) said that this year, Earth Hour will save about 400,000 kWh of electricity, equivalent to 603 million dong.

Mr. Thanh hopes Earth Hour is a premise to mobilize people to participate in saving electricity, when the supply situation for the South may be difficult in the future. In 2014, expected power saving output in the North and Central is expected to reach at least 1.5% of commercial output (925 million kWh), while the South is 2% (1,262 million KWh). For the whole year, EVN can save about 2 billion kWh.
Answering PV about the real effectiveness of Earth Hour when many large hotels and restaurants still did not participate, Mr. Pham Duc Tien, Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade said, Earth Hour is not a chapter. compulsive process that depends on community consciousness. Vietnam joined Earth Hour for the first time in 2009.
