Sharp-toothed lancets are washed up

A rare lancet fish that often lives in the Atlantic Ocean caused a stir last week when it swam to the coast of North Carolina, USA.

The lizard fish (nicknamed 'slippery' lizard) is a mysterious animal whose sharp teeth with body can be up to 1.8m long. This strange fish rarely appears before humans but has recently surfaced at Nags Head beach.

At first glance, lizard fish are like hybrid between yellowfin and swordfish. Daryl Law and Leif Rasmussen working nearby took pictures of this strange fish and released it to the sea.

Wildlife protection authorities said the fish swim near the shore is an unusual phenomenon and speculate that at that time the animal may be limping. According to My Fox 8, functional experts said the fish was only seen when offshore fishermen accidentally caught using long fishing rods to catch tuna.

These images are then posted on Facebook and received many comments from the online community. Many people enjoyed the fish, others said the animal was too scary and they did not dare to swim for it.

The Daily Mail quoted a fisherman saying that in 30 years of fishing, he had never seen such a fish. There is little information about lizard fish in addition to descriptions like sails and sharp teeth. According to oceanographers, they survived thanks to eating crabs and their kind.
