American billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX technology corporation recently revealed a new external activity suit (EVA) , an important development in commercial space flights.

It is considered a technical feat, operating both inside and outside the Crew Dragon ship.

EVA is very different from the spacesuits of the US Space Agency (NASA) and the Russian National Space Agency (Roscosmos). It is less bulky and designed to be flexible and comfortable, according to IFLScience on May 9.

The EVA's design is based on SpaceX's internal activity suit (IVA) , worn by astronauts traveling to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the Crew Dragon.

It can operate in both pressurized and unpressurized environments, and has new enhancements and redundancy features to improve reliability during spacewalks.

SpaceX's suit is also designed to be flexible in assembly. Different parts can be manufactured and assembled depending on the size of the wearer, avoiding a repeat of the historic first spacewalk of two female astronauts that was canceled because NASA did not have the right size suit available.

SpaceX values these spacesuits and hopes it will accompany millions of people to the Moon and Mars in the future.

SpaceX will soon test these new suits on the Polaris Program 's first Polaris Dawn mission . In this mission, a Dragon spacecraft will fly to an orbit 700km above Earth. SpaceX has not announced a specific schedule for this mission, but it will not take place before this summer.

This will be the first commercial spacewalk, and also the first time four people have performed a spacewalk at the same time. This mission will take the crew higher than any other private mission has ever attempted.

During 5 days, the team will perform scientific experiments to better understand the effects of space travel on human physiology.

They will also be the first astronauts to test communications using the Starlink satellite system in space . SpaceX sees this as an important technological development in the future of communications in deep space, around the Earth, the Moon and even Mars.

NASA is also testing this type of communication, sending messages from beyond the Red Planet's orbit.
