Spy on the Internet - No. 1 threat

Every year, security firm McAfee collaborates with experts from organizations such as NATO, FBI, SOCA and a number of universities groups to make assessments of global security trends.

This year, according to a McAfee survey, spyware will be the biggest threat for businesses in 2008. Currently, online hackers are also targeting important infrastructure of nations like Electrical system, air traffic control, financial market and government computer system.

Jeff Green, senior vice president for product development at McAfee, said many online attacks originated in China. The government has announced it will continue to pursue espionage activities online. McAfee estimates that about 120 countries are conducting anti-spy programs on the Internet.

In addition, users are advised to pay attention to VoIP software because this is also the place where cyber criminals often attack. For example, in Japan, up to 50% of the data has been compromised.

McAfee also said that cybercriminals are turning to customer services, such as attacking websites that specialize in auctions, product advertisements and other support services. These are services where hackers have the opportunity to steal customers' personal information.
